How To Teach A Dog To Come

Dog obedience training shouldn’t be this simple, should it?  Isn’t dog obedience training something difficult?

Here are two simple dog obedience training methods to easily teach your dog to come.

Wait until your dog comes to you naturally.  When the dog comes to you (for a rub or for play or for a treat or whatever), say firmly, “Come,” as the dog approaches.  Speak loud enough for your dog to hear but don’t yell.  Don’t combine “Come” with a bunch of other words.  So don’t say, “Come here, you little cutie.”  An important dog obedience training dog training tip is to use single words when possible.  Dogs respond best to single words, not combinations of words. 

When the dog gets to you, say, “Good come.”  Say it in an excited tone of voice and praise the dog effusively.  Give the dog a treat.

If your dog loves a particular toy or toys, call your dog to you by luring him or her with a toy.  Then give the toy to the dog as praise for “Good come.”  Using rewards is an integral part of good dog training basics. 

Dog Training For Home Mistake To Avoid 

Dog training for home can be a hassle sometimes when daily life gets hectic.  It’s easy to make basic dog training for home mistakes when you’re stressed or over-busy.  That’s okay.  Your dog will learn anyway. 

Just be sure you never make this dog obedience training mistake:  Don’t ever call your dog to you and then do something your dog doesn’t like.  Don’t use the word “Come”, get the dog to come to you and then do something like yell at the dog, lock the dog up, give the dog medicine or cut the dogs nails. 

You want your dog to associate the word “Come” with something good.  Keep this in mind and you’ll much more success with your dog training for home.
